Internationella Engelska Skolan Tyresö söker Akademisk Koordinator / Academic Coordinator 4-6

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in leading and developing one of Stockholm's best schools!

As Academic Coordinator 4-6 you work closely with the Academic Coordinator 7-9, with the main purpose of the position supporting the Assistant Principal Academics in leading Academics across the school. Our school also has two Student Care Coordinators 4-6 + 7-9 that you work together with as a team, supporting different aspects of securing a school where teachers can teach and students can learn.

As Academic Coordinator at IES Tyresö you are part of the school’s extended leadership team (ledningsgrupp).

Responsibilities and duties as Academic Coordinator 4-6 include

- To support the development and implementation of the academic vision of the school
- To ensure that departments follow academic routines such as sharing planning on SchoolSoft,  following the teaching and learning policy and meet academic deadlines
- Ensure staff knows how to work with LGR22
- Support teachers in their academic situation to work with academic data as directed by the AP
- To support the AP with the administration of the grading process to ensure all staff complete the process in an accurate and timely way
- To be in regular communication with staff about key academic issues/progress
- To support the AP with the scheduling and oversight of National Tests, iGCSEs, development talks, subject teacher evenings and other academic events
- To give Special Education Team administrative support as needed
- Coordinate training for staff in regards to Grading and Curriculum
- Ensure that students in need have adequate adjustments

Required skills, competencies and experience

Educational background

The ideal candidate has a teacher degree and has experience from teaching and working with the years 4-6. If you also have a degree within special education, this is particularly meritorious.

Language

The ideal candidate  is fluent or has a good working level in Swedish and English in both speech and writing.

Operational and strategic experience

To be successful in the role, you need to be good at structuring, planning and prioritizing your work. You like to lead others and have good cooperation skills. You are strategic, think holistically and analytically and can see the long-term effects of your decisions.

Outstanding conflict management and de-escalation skills when dealing with both students and parents.

Strong IT skills, including good working knowledge of Schoolsoft / Prorenata and/or other data management systems.

If possible, we would like for you to have previous experience of working with systematic quality work, such as survey analyses.

Leadership experience

You have proven long term high quality skills. You are an experienced, flexible, exemplary and visible leader with excellent man management skills. You are willing to go the extra mile.

Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrable middle to senior leadership experience, and you are able to keep calm and make critical decisions under pressure.

You have broad experience from working with the Swedish curriculum and you have a vast understanding of LGR22.

In your mindset you always put the students first and you’re up to date with modern research and keen to implement modern ways of teaching.

You are experienced in parental communication.

You have broad experience in writing Åtgärdsprogram, pedagogical assessments etc.

Some teaching is included in the position.

If you have attended any leadership development program or any leadership training, it is meritorious.

Academic Coordinator 4-6

Job Responsibilities

The Academic Coordinator should be seen by the staff team as being an exemplary educator, organiser and motivator. They work closely with the Principal/Assistant Principal to ensure high academic standards across all subjects balancing both short and long term goals. They support & guide teachers wherever possible and work to maximise student achievement in everything they do. As a member of the group of Academic Coordinators they support each other and work to create and develop academic initiatives to constantly raise the standards of education across the organisation.

Responsibilities towards:

Students:

- Monitor the correct use of test/project scheduling and homework scheduling
- Meet Year 6 study monitors weekly to oversee student workloads and stress
- Organise and oversee the weekly availability of extra help in every subject (Tutorial)

Staff:

- Monitor the proper and regular use of Academic Notices, ensuring follow-up and closure
- Work with the Special Educator and student care as appropriate (such as monitoring key students)
- Ensure that all teachers are aware of the procedures and policies relating to academic performance; including meeting Skolverket’s requirements such as departments meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum
- Regularly communicate with staff about key academic issues/progress. Share weekly Heads of Department meetings. Support staff with ensuring that the classroom atmosphere is conclusive to learning.
- Assist with preparation for an organisation of the National Tests
- Assist all subjects in general
- Support teachers with their continued professional development – including lesson observations and monitoring the impact of the Classroom management in the classroom (this does not include observations relating to salary setting)

Management and planning:

- Assist the Principal in ensuring that the quality of teaching, learning, planning, and assessment are of the highest quality.
- Maintain statistical records pertaining to the school’s academic performance; monitor the school’s performance relative to the academic goals that are set locally and within IES.
- Regularly meet with the school’s management team to monitor and discuss the school’s current academic situation/development
- Meet other Academic Coordinators and work closely with with them on the continued academic development of the organisation as a whole
- Liaise with the other Academic coordinator and the Assistant Principal for Academics wherever appropriate
- In addition to the above, some Academic Coordinators will assume responsibility for the Student Information System, SchoolSoft
